Profile Versatile Scleral (PVS): RGP Beyond the Limbus

The ultimate system
lens for complex
corneal topographies.

Originally developed by JACL and now proudly part of the Optosoft
specialist portfolio, the Profile Versatile Scleral (PVS) fitting set represents a
premier solution for challenging eyes. Moving beyond standard intra-limbal
rigid gas permeable (RGP) principles, the PVS is engineered to achieve a
perfect balance: a completely static peripheral bearing surface combined
with structured, reliable clearance extending fully past the limbus.

Whatever the corneal terrain, the PVS system has it covered with floating
diameters ranging seamlessly from 16.50mm up to 18.30mm.

Why Choose the PVS System?

The PVS fitting set is designed to tackle the greatest variations in corneal anatomy by offering parallel, side-by-side fitting options. Key features and clinical benefits include:
Seamless Peripheral Transitions:
A continuous tangent section creates a perfectly smooth transition from the base curve (BOZR) to the first conic section, resolving the common issue of tight transition junctions just beyond the limbus.
True Geometry Matching:
The matrix allows practitioners to select distinct Oblate or Prolate lens profiles for the exact same Sagittal depth (SAG), optimising centration and clearance across vastly different eye shapes.
Bespoke Modification Control:
Beyond a versatile standard matrix, Optosoft provides exact manufacturing modifications (e.g., micro- adjustments to zonal junction points) to accommodate complex, atypical scleral profiles.
Systematic Progression:
The fitting programme progresses in precise 0.2mm SAG increments between lenses, with built-in parameter compensation automatically applied at the large- diameter end of the range.

Navigating
the PVS Matrix

The core PVS diagnostic set is categorised into four distinct geographical zones to target specific patient cohorts:
1. Low SAG Projections (Flat Shapes)
  • Clinical Targets: Ideal for broader bearing surfaces or post-surgical topography requiring lower sag values.
  • Specifications: SAG range from 3.90mm to 4.10mm, an 8.90mm BOZR, and a standard 16.50mm overall diameter. Designed as an oblate profile to maintain ample clear
2. Mid-Range Projections (Oblate & Prolate)
  • Clinical Targets: The primary engine of the diagnostic set. Highly effective for steep normal corneas, standard keratoconus, and varying post-surgical ectasias where peripheral topography changes rapidly.
  • Oblate Specifications: SAG range from 4.30mm to 5.50mm, BOZR from 8.90mm to 7.25mm, and diameters from 16.50mm to 17.10mm.
  • Prolate Specifications: SAG range from 4.30mm to 5.50mm, BOZR from 8.40mm to 7.15mm, and diameters from 16.50mm to 17.10mm.
3. High SAG Projections (Advanced Pathology)
  • Clinical Targets: Specifically tailored for highly advanced ectasia and globic corneas where exceptional apical depth is mandatory.
  • Specifications: Extreme SAG depths ranging from 5.70mm to 6.30mm, a 7.15mm BOZR, and extended overall diameters from 17.40mm up to 18.30mm to prevent limbal compression.
